Have a heart. Seat-belt-maker Takata is building a new test track in Michigan. Looks like safety pays in more ways than one—the plant will cost $14.6 million and employ 500. The photo is one of several magazine ads the company has published around the world.

$99 billion, $500 per driver. That's the annual cost of motor vehicle crashes in the U.S., says a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Data available for the study date from 2005. Imagine what those numbers could be if everyone wore a seat belt.
